Radiology is the study of pictures of the human body. X-rays were the first way to view the inside of the body without making an incision. Now in modern times, there are many tool used in radiology to view the body.
The Department of Radiology stands at the pinnacle of radiology. The Department offers a wide array of outstanding clinical service with a deep commitment to developing subspecialty expertise.
The department performs over 100,000 imaging exams a year, across the full range of screening, diagnostic and interventional procedures at location of eastern province and surrounding communities. All images are digitally transferred to Mass General radiologists via our Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), so no matter which location you choose you are sure to receive our sub –specialty expertise along with the latest imaging technology in a caring and convenient environment.
Physicians who specialize in the study of radiology are certified, subspecialty or fellowship trained in imaging.
The Department of Radiology provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and interventional (minimally invasive radiology) services. Imaging techniques available include state-of-the-art computed radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, mammography and diagnostic angiography.
Hospital is offering open extremity MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) services. This MRI scanner is specifically designed for claustrophobic patients, overweight patients, biopsies, as well as other normal examinations for different body parts.
We work in partner with several departments to offer non-invasive and minimally invasive imaging to screen, diagnose, provide interventional therapy and treat diseases and conditions.
The Inpatient Radiology Department is a 24-hour imaging service that uses state-of-the-art x-ray producing equipment (computed radiography) to generate images of the tissues, organs, bones and vessels of the body, as prescribed by physicians, to assist in the diagnosis of disease or injury. Procedures are also performed at the patient’s bedside using mobile radiographic equipment, in surgical suites through the use of mobile fluoroscopic (C-arm) units, as well as in the Emergency Department, recovery room and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Medical imaging procedures are performed by adapting the variable technical parameters of the procedure to the condition of the patient, assuring minimal radiation exposure to patients and personnel.
Radiology provides complete outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic imaging procedures. Comprehensive radiography (x-ray) is available for skeletal, abdominal, chest, genitourinary (GU) and gastrointestinal (GI) diagnostic testing. CT scan of the brain and body and abdominal and musculosketal Ultrasound are available. A physician order is required
